Year 9 Engineering & Design CO2 Dragster Challenge

Our Year 9 Engineering and Design students have finished off the term with a series of CO2 dragster races, featuring dragsters they designed and created themselves.

The students were tasked with designing a car that would be aerodynamic and light. They had certain limitations and regulations to work within, but the finished designs were all unique.

To help design the ultimate racer, the students learned about aerodynamics, friction, drag and force. The students used AutoDesk Inventor (3D modelling software) to design their dragsters which were then 3D printed and assembled with wheels and eyelets.

The finished dragsters were raced along a 20 metre long track, spectacularly propelled by a small CO2 canister. The fastest time of the day was Case Ryan's dragster with 1.140 seconds and Madeline Bauer came a close second with 1.241 seconds.

Next term the students will use Architectural Software (Autodesk Revit) to design their own 2 bedroom home.
