Quinola Lakes Retreat

A Journey of Reflection and Connection

In week 8 of this term, students undertook a transformative journey at the Year 11 Retreat at Quinola Lakes near Malanda. Nestled in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands, this picturesque setting provided the backdrop for self-discovery, camaraderie, and spiritual exploration.

As the students arrived, they were greeted by the serene beauty of the winter countryside. Sunshine graced the landscape, and wildlife sightings added to the enchantment of the retreat.

The retreat was led by Dave Jorna, from Project Hatch, who guided the students through thought-provoking activities. They took stock of their lives, explored their values, and contemplated their future selves. Dave's guidance encouraged vulnerability and introspection allowing the students to express their appreciation for one another. They generously shared stories of connection, whether with peers, family or a higher power.

Students participated enthusiastically (almost too enthusiastically) in singing competitions, filling the crisp air with rock anthems and boy band classics. Around the campfire, they shared some classic, spine-tingling ghost stories with great showmanship and audience participation.

Throughout the retreat, the students exemplified courtesy and care. Their genuine interactions fostered deep bonds, culminating in a sense of unity by day three. Sincere thanks to the staff who attended this retreat and who ensured the students got the most out of the experience.
