At the end of Term 2, we held our very first Staff vs Year 12 Volleyball Tournament. Three teams of staff members and three teams of students went head to head to compete for the tournament trophy. During the event, there was music and plenty of spectators. It was a successful tournament with a student team walking away victorious! Well done to all who participated.
Keep an eye out on Compass for the next lunchtime event.

I had the privilege of sharing a Hazaragi poem at an event organised by the United Cultural Support Incorporated (UCSI) community organisation on the 3rd of May 2024. This poignant piece, penned by my talented uncle, Mustafa Najib, sheds light on the challenges faced by Afghan girls and women under Taliban rule. It was a deeply emotional experience to voice solidarity and concern for my brave sisters in Afghanistan, who are enduring unimaginable hardships in accessing education and basic rights.
In Australia, I've been actively involved in the Hazara Afghan communities, using poetry as a medium to raise awareness and inspire action. As a Community Services student, this opportunity has reinforced my passion for community work.
These moments have affirmed my commitment to advocating for Afghan girls and leveraging my opportunities in Australia to empower others. I hope to encourage fellow girls and women to seize their opportunities and make a positive impact in their communities. Together, we can strive for a world where every girl can freely pursue her dreams and aspirations.

The Monash Scholars program is a prestigious program for high achieving secondary school students to give them a unique head start into university life. The program has been running for 11 years. Students who are selected in Year 10, stay until the end of Year 12. Over the 2.5 years, Scholars participate in a range of bespoke activities to enhance their learning, explore their career ambitions, define their personal aspirations, and build networks with other high achieving students. In Term 2, we conducted an application and interview process and from 13 applicants, we shortlisted 5 students to nominate from Dandenong High School. The shortlisted students then progressed to the Monash University screening process. We would like to congratulate Elaha R, Ethrath R and Ishita W. In their application, students needed to demonstrate academic achievement, extra-curricular endeavours and articulate what a good leader looks like and how they display these qualities in their own lives.
I am thrilled and honoured to have been selected for this opportunity with Monash Scholars. I am eagerly anticipating the chance to collaborate and grow alongside such inspiring individuals. I can't wait to engage in the upcoming events and collaborations ahead.

For 3 days during the July school holidays 2 Year 11 and 5 Year 12 students attended the SEAMS (Strengthening Engagement and Achievement in Mathematics and Science), camp. Students were selected and endorsed by teachers at the school to be able to attend. SEAMS is an academic program run in collaboration with Monash University and the University of Melbourne. It aims to increase the participation and attainment of underrepresented students in mathematics and science in higher education.
In Term 2, three of our students attended a lucrative work experience program in Engineering at CMP Consultation Group. Congratulations to Adam Jodeh, Ethan Medancic and Mustafa Jawansher for being selected for this opportunity and representing Dandenong High School in such high regard. Our partnership with CMP remains strong and there will be more opportunities for our students in the future.
I had an incredible experience during my work placement at CMP, an engineering consultancy specialising in pipelines. Collaborating with classmates and students from other schools, I gained valuable insights into the engineering field and the importance of teamwork. A highlight for me was participating in a session where we learned about the consulting process and the steps taken to meet customer needs.

The CMP work experience was very fun and informative, every day we had a different engineer teach us about their topic ranging from civil, environmental and planning engineers. During the work experience we arrived at the office at 9am and finished at 3pm so we were able to experience what it was like to work in the office. One of the highlights of the week was when we had a practical demonstration of the various pumps they use which provided insight into the various complex designs they make with every project.
