Newsletter- Year

Dear parents,

Congratulations to all students who have presented their Famous Indigenous Australian project. This has certainly been the highlight of our week. We’ve seen some wonderful posters, keynotes, youtube clips and iMovies. Well done to all our fabulous year 4’s for their hard work, and to families for their support on the project.

Year 4 Excursion - Indigenous Landscapes Tour, Thursday 13th June (next week):

Our excursion is fast approaching and we are so excited. Some important information follows:

  1. If you have not yet done so, please see Compass for event information and provide payment and consent ASAP.
  2. On the day, we need to be in the City by 10.30am, so we are asking that all students arrive at their classroom by 8.30am as we are expecting to depart for Eltham Station by 8.45am SHARP.
  3. Students will be carrying their backpack all day so they will need to bring a small backpack with snacks, lunch, drinks and a waterproof jacket. PLEASE NOTE the walking tour will go ahead despite the weather.
  4. We will be returning to school via train, at approx 2pm. We will depart from Flinders Street Station and travel to Eltham Station. Following this, we will walk from Eltham Station back to ENPS, returning prior to 3.30pm.

Please Note: You WILL be able to collect your child from Eltham Station at the end of the excursion. We will send a Compass alert to families once we know our exact arrival times.

What's happened in year 4 this week?

English – This week in Writing the students started to compose their narratives. We also investigated the prefix ‘mis & mal’ by looking into its meaning and brainstorming words that use it.

Maths – This week in maths we’ve re-entered the world of ‘Space’ by investigating 3D shapes, including how we can use cubes to make 3D models that approximate real objects. Students have had opportunities to construct objects out of cubes.

Inquiry – ‘How did the arrival of the first fleet impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders?’ Presentations have begun this week and we have been very impressed with the standard of presentations and the confidence in which the students are presenting. We can tell that students have enjoyed this project as we have seen passion and interest through their research and final presentations. Thank you for assisting your child at home to complete all the required research.

Tuesday Activity Afternoons- We now have 1 week to go (Tuesday 11th June). Thank you again to all our parents and grandparents who have been involved.

Friendology  – We revisited friendship fires, tricky situations and including others.

Homework - Homework this week continues to consist of:

  • Minimum 4 nights reading with at least 80 minutes per week recorded in school diary (Book title, pages read, minutes read).
  • Diary is to be brought to school each Thursday signed by parents.
  • Mathletics tasks are not compulsory but we have set students tasks to complete if they wish. Students may be awarded mathletics certificates at our level assembly.
