CHESS: William Bonser & Jonty Edwards

The room fell silent as black and white pieces were traded and won at the recent inter-school chess tournament. More than 60 primary students travelled to host school, Scotch Oakburn College, to play 7 rounds of intense chess. LCS was represented by Jonty Edwards and William Bonser (both grade 3). This was Jonty’s second tournament, and he came home strong, winning 5 games. William made his chess debut and won 3 games plus a draw. A big congratulations to both Jonty and William.

Note If any parent has an enthusiastic chess player at home, please contact Amelia Edwards on aedwards@datalive.com.au for tournament updates and chess news.

KARATE: Hugh Kerrison

During the national tournament last year, Hugh was awarded a bronze medal, qualifying him to attend an International Tournament (against NZ, UK + America) for GKR Karate at Olympic Park in Sydney this August. What an incredible opportunity - a huge congratulations to Hugh. We hope you enjoy the competition and can't wait to hear all about it.

Launceston Christian School is delighted to celebrate and support students who represent Tasmania in an event at national or international level. The school may provide a payment up to$150 per student to support students and their families financially. This amount may assist with costs associated with the event and can be applied for via the Hub. Hugh's family have used the money from the school to pay for his special Australian Jacket.
