Rowing
An enthusiastic group of SMC rowers have been working very hard off the water in the gym under the watchful guidance of trainer, Declan to sustain their fitness and strength. It has been pleasing to see their enthusiasm, and some enjoyment, as they continue to work through their program.
Moving into Term 3, if circumstances have changed for any rowers, and they would like to join in the gym sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, please email Mr Pinelli, apinelli@smc.tas.edu.au so that the necessary arrangements can be put into place.

Recap: All Schools Cross Country
On Thursday 13 June, St Mary’s College sent a wonderful team of 25 athletes to the All Schools Cross Country at Symmons Plains. All students showed fantastic resilience in chilly conditions, with the following stand out individual performances:
Amelia Watson (2nd place) - Year 7
Georgia Scharvi (7th place) - Year 8
Alet Le Grange (2nd place) - Year 10
Jessica Smith (1st place) - Year 11
The team represented SMC with pride, cheered on each other and showed great levels of sportsmanship. A selection of photos from the day are included here.
Junior Cross Country - two down, one to go!
Our first cross country event, the STCPSSA carnival, was held on Friday 7 June at the Rokeby Police Academy. We had some amazing results on the day with three competitors finishing in the top 10 in their year group race:
Frankie Schaller (7th place) in Year 3
Charlotte Krautz (5th place) in Year 4
Sylvie Gundry (7th place) in Year 5
Every St Mary’s College competitor ran incredibly well and all should be extremely proud of their efforts.
Our second cross country carnival, the 2024 All Schools Primary Cross Country, took place yesterday, on Tuesday 18 June. The team left St Mary’s College in darkness to travel to Symmons Plains to compete against the rest of the state, and they did so well. This is a true cross country course but that didn’t deter anyone – onwards and upwards for these athletes!
Results from the day can be found here: https://thetimingguysresults.com/TasPSXC/2024. All athletes did a remarkable job and should be extremely proud!
The highlight of the day was saved until the very last race of the event. Tatum Smith in Year 4, pictured below, finished in fourth place, an incredible feat in a field of more than 240 competitors.
Tatum has gained tentative selection in the Tasmanian cross country team which will compete in the Australian Cross Country Championships later this year. Well done, Tatum!
Our team will be back up tomorrow (Thursday 20 June) when we participate in our third and final carnival, the JSSATIS carnival. Though there will likely be some tired legs on the course and potentially some showers to contend with, our team always participates with gusto, and I know tomorrow will be no different! Go team SMC!
