Welcome
Parent Partnership – One of the foundations of our College
At the College, we believe that parents have the ultimate accountability and responsibility before God to raise up their children in the way they should go Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. It is because as part of that responsibility and accountability that parents desire a school that shares the same belief system as they do, so that together we can work in partnership to help raise and educate our young people so that they love mercy, act just and walk humbly before God. What a phenomenal privilege we have as a school and as parents in this task.
So, what does good partnership look like? Often it has boiled down to parents being involved in school activities such as running a BBQ or being involved in a Mother’s Day stall and whilst yes, this is part of partnership and something that we really love and value, here at the College it is also more than that.
Partnership at its base level, is an agreement that we are working together as a school and family in community to help our young people be all that they can be. It involves two-way communication where both the College and parents can have conversations about our young people, it means working through issues as they arise with the aim that these issues can be resolved, and most importantly it is trust, trust that as a school and parents, that we all have the best interests of our young people as the orientation of all of our decisions.
We all have a role to play in this partnership as we serve one another in our community. The student’s role is to learn, the teacher to mentor and guide and the parent to nurture and instruct. Authority is vested in the role the person has, not the person and is exercised through servanthood (Fowler, 2004, p120-121). What a joy to partner with the parent community here at Wagga Wagga Christian College as we form our wonderful young people.
