Artists of the Week

During Semester 1, I was allowed to experiment with a variety of mediums, including oil pastels, water colours, oil paints, and photography. While working with oil pastels, I found them to be messy and prone to smudging, which made them less enjoyable for me. On the other hand, I fell in love with water colours due to their ease of use and the beautiful effects they could create. Photography quickly became my favourite task as it provided a powerful means of self-expression through the lens. Lastly, oil paints were amazing because of their rich texture and the depth they added to my work, allowing me to bring my artistic visions to life in a unique and compelling way.

In Semester 1 of Art Making and Exhibiting I have enjoyed the freedom of being allowed to work on particular skills that I want to improve on and to work with classmates who share my same passion for art. I have appreciated using and learning about most of the different mediums like Lino printing, soft pastels, ink and oil paints. My favourite medium to work with was the oil paints because of the flat polished and smooth effect these paints create. This is the medium I used for my final piece of term 2. The downside of using oil paints as an art is that they take longer to dry than other paints so it requires a lot of patience.
