Principal's News

Dear families,

I am writing this week’s message while sitting in the sun after working with some of the Stage 2 boys on their garden project. They came to me to ask if they could build a garden and bench in the school. A place where kids could go and chill when needed. After consultation with Joe and myself they decided to continue to improve the garden between the office and library. The boys have informed me that this will be a garden they can bring their own kids to in years to come. I can’t wait to see how this project unfolds in the coming weeks.

We started the term with KROP rehearsals in full swing. Thank you to the families who helped us with transport last Friday for the technical rehearsal. The power of community is always something that Yanco Public School is brilliant at. I can’t wait to see all the dancers next week when they glow and shine.

This morning, we had a great turn out of parents for our NAIDOC breakfast. Thank you to Faith and her team of student leaders for the work that went into the cooking of a fantastic bacon and egg breakfast. The students have been busy all morning connecting and creating while deepening their understanding of local Aboriginal culture.

We look forward to seeing more families join us at Gralee on Wednesday for the small schools combined NAIDOC celebration.

Previous Year 6 Jumpers

Over the past couple of weeks younger siblings of past year 6 students have started to wear their older siblings’ hoodies. I am asking for this to stop. These tops are for those students currently in Year 6. It is their time to celebrate their place as leaders of the school and jumpers being worn by other students is lessening this moment.

Representing the school

As a small school, every child gets to participate in events they want to have a go at. This means we don’t have ‘dancers’ and ‘athletes’, and ‘academic’ kids. We have kids who get to have a go at all the things they want to try. This semester, students at Yanco are getting to shine in areas including creative arts, elite sports, science and technology and even spelling. It is part of what makes a small school great.

Sentral

Thank you to all the families who are now using the portal to respond to absences and return notes as required. We know that this is a shift in how thin are done and we are always willing to help you navigate the process if you are not sure.

Thank you

Mrs Taylor
