Level 4: Connect

Important: Laptops need to be charged overnight please.  Laptops are needed for students' History projects and lots of other class work.

Well done to our Level 4 students on a hardworking fortnight. Teachers have been very impressed with the students' willingness to give all of our activities a go and to try their best with absolutely everything! A top effort all round!

We are looking forward to celebrating our students' successes with you all at our teacher conferences next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Parents, next week you will receive a Compass note all about our Term 3 up and coming Phillip Island Adventure Resort camp. Camp will be held from Monday 26th August until Wednesday 28th August. It will be such an exciting experience for our Level 4 students.

Stay tuned for lots of camp information over the coming weeks ...

Literacy

We have delved into the wonderful and opinionated world of debating, and so far, the students are loving it. We are exploring how to formulate our stances on various issues, articulating clear and compelling reasons for our opinions. Additionally, students are learning the valuable skill of agreeing and disagreeing with each other in a respectful and constructive manner.

Students are becoming more confident and articulate speakers, learning to present their arguments clearly and persuasively. At the same time, they are honing their listening skills, understanding the importance of actively listening to others’ viewpoints, and responding thoughtfully. The enthusiasm and engagement from the students have been remarkable, and it is wonderful to see them actively participating and enjoying the learning experience.

Students explored 'Rebuttal Tennis' this week, you can see an example of what this looked like in the classroom in the video link below.

Numeracy

We have continued to explore the relationship between multiplication and division through the use of the Array Model and Area Model in Numeracy this week. It has been exciting to observe the students growing confidence with working with larger numbers when solving division problems and drawing on a range of strategies to solve them. Next week we are excited to apply our skills to a range of problem-solving activities with the students in a fun and interactive way. The students will be engaging in a task where they design their own multiplication board game. This will enable them to showcase their understanding and demonstrate the following:

  1. Demonstrate fluency in multiplication facts up to 10x10.
  2. Apply multiplication skills to real-life situations and explain the relevance of multiplication in everyday life.
  3. Work together as part of a team to create a multiplication board game.

We look forward to seeing students apply their creative skills to this fun task to end a busy term next week!

Inquiry

We are on the home straight in terms of our History Commemoration and Celebration information book projects. Students have been working really well on their projects in class. They have even been including such elements as a glossary, contents page, captions and an index in their information booklets. Well done to our very clever researchers and authors! We look forward to students sharing their finished projects next week in small groups within their class.

Next term our Inquiry focus will be that of Geography. We will be exploring places within Australia, South America and Africa.

All the best for a lovely break. Stay safe and warm in the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all next week for our conference.
