Level 2: Connect

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents and students for a wonderful term. Your hard work, dedication, and collaboration have made this term a tremendous success. We greatly appreciate everyone's efforts and contributions, which have helped create a positive and productive learning environment. Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm! Have a fantastic break!

Spelling

In spelling we are reviewing the 'ie' as in piece, and 'ue' as in blue spelling patterns.

Spelling practice can be supported at home by encouraging children to use new words in daily conversations and by helping them with fun activities like word games and flashcards.

'ie' as in piece – in the middle or at the end of a word.

'ue' as in blue – at the end of a word.

Writing

The students have been incredibly focused during their writing sessions over the past two weeks, showing significant improvement in adding detail, description, and organising their flow of ideas. They've crafted some excellent recipe ideas and successfully followed sequences when writing procedures. Well done Year 2!

To conclude the term, we will participate in some fun and engaging activities. This coming week, we are excited to explore Sidney Nolan's famous painting "The Trial." Students will discuss what is depicted in the painting and learn about the history behind it. They will practice writing dialogues, research and summarise facts about the artist, and create their own cartoons about the infamous Bushranger. A diverse range of writing genres to end the term.

Math

In the last week of term, we will review the different areas of maths covered to consolidate students' learning. This review will reinforce their understanding and ensure they are well-prepared for Term 2. We will focus on the area of a shape, and while exploring Sidney Nolan's picture "The Trial," students will recreate a smaller version of Ned Kelly's armour using different sized rectangles to measure its area and perimeter.
