Level 6: Connect

Kristy Cullen, Kym Seccull, Richelle Fraser & Anthony Klvac

Please check COMPASS next week for our Term 3 Camp event.

Level 6 students and teachers have been so lucky to have Will McClusky in 6A, we will be sad to see him go as he heads back to uni to complete his Masters of Teaching.

Literacy

Students have been working hard in various areas of Literacy: Spelling Mastery, Partnered Reading, Syntax Project and Wonder. This week we have deepened our understanding of an author's purpose and that writers make conscious choices about how they deliver their message to their audience.

Maths

Students have been practising their division skills and using the appropriate algorithim to complete short problems. Division demands students to have automaticity of their multiplication facts. We recommend websites such as TopMarks, Mathletics, MyNumeracy and LoveMaths.

Here are some examples of games that practice multiplicative thinking:

A highlight for maths this week was getting the students outside and measuring distances around the school. In small groups students had to make an estimation about a particular location in the school. Then students used a trundle wheel to determine the exact distance. The students then had to extend their understanding by converting between the different units and examine how many times a day that may complete that distance and what it looks like over a day or a week.

Inquiry

Yesterday, we had such a blast taking the students to the city and learn about how the use of the Melbourne landscape has changed over time. Here are some pictures from our adventure!

Homework ~ If you would like your child to complete work at home you can complete the following...

Reading - it is important that students read most nights. 20 minutes before bed is the ideal reading routine. Students can complete a character analysis of the characters they have read.

Maths - there are revision sheets available in the Homework folder on Teams - General/Term 2/Homework/Optional Work.  Students are encouraged to complete the Problem of the Week in this newsletter or go to the Problem-Solving folder on Teams.

Interschool Sport

Congratulations to all students for their participation and sportsmanship during our winter sport. Stay tuned for the results...
