Principal's Message

Our year begins against a backdrop of campaigns to secure full funding for Victorian government schools, and to sign a new schools agreement for fairer pay and conditions. We understand that actions such as stop-works and not providing written comments on reports will have some negative impacts. I thank all members of our school community for the support and understanding you have shown.
We welcomed a number of new staff and students at the beginning of the year, and there have been other significant changes. The school day now begins with a ten minute Homegroup session, which allows our Homegroup teachers to promptly follow up any students who are late to school. Improved attendance is a major goal for the year.
Another focus will be a refresh of our systems of positive behaviour supports. This will include the selection of new school values and a refinement of the processes we use to encourage appropriate behaviour.
There have been improvements to our student food programs. We have employed specialist staff, and are continuing to expand our fresh and healthy food options.
We have welcomed several new school council members, and Tania Rose has been returned for a second year as school council president. Notably, Ethan Mazaraki joins Matt Caruana as a student representative on school council. There are still two vacant parent positions on council, and I encourage anyone who may be interested to give me a call. New members can be seconded throughout the year.
There are a number of major facilities upgrades planned throughout the year. These include a long awaited new basketball court and refurbishment of the hall at Richmond, and the design and construction of a music studio at Coburg. These projects will allow us to continue to grow our tradition of showcasing a range of student work in whole school events at the end of each term.
Importantly, our Cultural Action Team will meet regularly throughout the year to support our First Nations students and staff, and to oversee the school's efforts to grow our cultural safety.
