Little Learners

Over the last two weeks, the little learners explored a range of fun, play-based maths tasks, including “feed the dog/monkey,” pattern making with sea creatures, and counting worms and farm animals into homes numbered 1–5. These hands-on activities help develop early skills such as counting, number recognition, and patterning, while also building confidence, independence, and problem-solving all important for a smooth transition to school.
We also enjoyed singing “5 Little Ducks,” using connector blocks to match each duck and taking them away as we sang. This engaging activity supports counting and introduces simple subtraction in a fun and meaningful way.
We had lots of fun creating our artwork for the Tumbarumba Show, using painted hands and feet to design our very own Bear Hunt masterpieces. This creative experience encouraged imagination while also supporting fine motor development and confidence in trying new things.
Biscuit decorating was another highlight! The children loved spreading icing, cutting lollies, and creating their own chosen designs. This was not only lots of fun, but also a fantastic way to build fine motor skills, coordination, and independence, great skills for our 4-year-olds as they prepare for school.
