PERFORMING ARTS

This term in Performing Arts, our school has been buzzing with energy as students stepped into the wonderful world of dance! Across all year levels, students have been exploring dances from around the world, with a special focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance traditions, learning how movement can tell stories, express ideas, and connect us to culture. Along the way, everyone has also been practising safe dance techniques, including being aware of their “personal bubble” while moving and performing.
Foundation students have been discovering dance through purposeful play, exploring different ways their bodies can move. A highlight has been our joyful scarf dances, where students have been learning to dance with props. It has been truly heartwarming to see their faces light up as they move, twirl, and create, while also cheering on and encouraging their classmates.
In Years 1 and 2, students have been developing their physical and expressive dance skills to communicate ideas and tell stories through movement. They have been practising copying movements and staying in sync with others while learning a fun partner bush dance. It has been wonderful watching them build teamwork skills and confidence as they work closely with their partners.
Our Years 3 and 4 students have been unleashing their creativity by improvising dance movements, both individually and in small groups. They have been exploring 8-count dance sequences and learning how to move to the beat. It has been a joy to see them enthusiastically creating their own dance works and proudly sharing their unique routines with the class.
Meanwhile, Years 5 and 6 students have been exploring how dance can communicate ideas, emotions, and stories. Working in small groups, they have been choreographing their own dance sequences, demonstrating fantastic collaboration, creativity, and growing confidence when performing for their peers. We have been incredibly proud of the way they have supported one another and embraced the challenge of creating their own choreography.
We have absolutely loved teaching Performing Arts this term and witnessing the creativity, enthusiasm and joy that dance has brought to our students. We can’t wait to see what exciting performances and imaginative ideas will unfold throughout the rest of the year!
