Assistant Principal's Report
Leasyl Richards - Curriculum
This week we held our Term 1 Assessment Week. On one day during the week, students attended all of their specialist classes. This gave classroom teachers time to work one-on-one with each student to complete some important learning assessments.
During this time, teachers assessed students in Reading (English) and Number (Mathematics). These assessments help us see how much progress students have made since the end of 2025 and help teachers plan their teaching for Term 2.
The information we gather helps us better understand each child’s learning and ensures we can provide the right support and challenges to help them continue to grow and succeed.

A big thank you to 6EB for helping out with mulching!

Each Monday at lunchtime, Mrs Bartleton and our Sustainability Leaders head outside for Garden Club. Sometimes other students join in as well. Together, they help care for the school garden by watering the garden beds, pulling out weeds, and moving mulch. It’s a great way to look after our environment while working as a team.

The 2026 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open!
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books.
Every student at Wheelers Hill Primary is registered for the Challenge. Your child’s class teacher will provide you with their username and password. To enter books and view the booklists visit: https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home
What does my child need to read to complete the challenge?
For Prep to Year 2 students: Children can read books by themselves or with someone else, for example, a parent, teacher, sibling, buddy or friend. You can help your child or read the book to them if they are just learning to read.
Your child’s Challenge books can come from the list for their year level or a level higher.
Prep - Year 2 students are to read or ‘experience’ 30 books (at least 20 of these from the Challenge list).
Year 3 - 6 students are to read 15 books (at least 10 of these from the Challenge list).
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier.
For more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge (Please note that dates on this website have not yet been updated but all other information is still correct for this year)
There are thousands of books on the list. You are welcome to visit the school library, the local library or to re-read books you have at home!
HAPPY READING!
