and out and about!
Students in year 4-6 have been working on a choice of projects relating to the sports and games. Students could choose to create a board game or card game that included Auslan in some way; research a Deaf Athlete who has competed in the Olympics and explain differences in how they compete in their sport; OR have a go at creating a role play in Auslan with a sports theme, perhaps a medal ceremony or interviewing a sports star. It was great to see so many students engaged in their group tasks and sharing their learning with each other along the way. The games I’ve had a chance to play have been so much fun and the role plays have been a wonderful demonstration of just how far these students have come in only 18 months of learning a new language!
Grade 3 students have been working on translating different texts from English into Auslan. Grade 322 have already shared their translation of ‘Dear Zoo’ on stage last week, and did a fantastic job! We hope to share more performances early in Term 4 from the other classes of some more well-known stories
The Grade 1 students had an amazing time during their Incursion on Monday, September 9th, and Tuesday, September 10th. The "Full STEAM Ahead" incursion introduced them to the scientific process by exploring everyday physical forces. They investigated various types of forces and energy, including electricity, magnetism, gravity, elasticity, friction, pushes, pulls, and wind energy, and learned how these forces can be applied to make objects move.
The students then engaged in a hands-on design process, using their creativity to build, evaluate, and modify race cars according to specific criteria. They worked collaboratively to overcome challenges and achieve the best results with their creations.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and the children gained a lot of new knowledge while having fun.
The Grade 3 cohort had a fantastic day on Thursday, September 19th, during their excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary. The students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique and vibrant bush environment, where they encountered a variety of animals roaming freely.
Throughout the excursion, the children participated in several engaging activities, including an exciting reptile encounter. This experience allowed them to learn about and interact with different reptile species in a safe and educational setting. Additionally, the students explored the Wallaby Bushland Track, where they had the chance to observe wallabies up close as they roamed freely through their natural habitat.
The day was filled with hands-on learning and memorable experiences that helped the students gain a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts. It was a wonderful outing that combined education with adventure, leaving the children with lasting impressions of their time at Moonlit Sanctuary.
