SPORT- Mrs Burt
Another busy term for the PE and Sport department.
CONGRATULATIONS ELVIS P (6/9)
Earlier in the year, I was notified that Elvis had been selected as goalie for the State Under 12 Victoria Hockey team. In August, Elvis flew to Darwin to compete in the National Championships. Victoria finished 4th overall. Voted by the coaches during the championship, Elvis was named Best and Fairest for Victoria.
In addition to this, he also was also the recipient of the Sports Excellence Scholarship by Hockey Australia, as a high potential young athlete.
What an amazing experience and year for someone who has only been playing for a short period of time.
YEAR 6 DISTRICT BASKETBALL LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP
On Wednesday28th August, 40 Year 6 students participated in the Murdoch District Lightning Premiership held at Frankston Basketball Stadium. With seven schools making up the District (Baxter, Langwarrin, Langwarrin Park, Pearcedale, Somerville, Somerville Rise and Woodlands), 33 teams played in the tournament, with approximately 180 students in total participating on the day. There were 5 different pools to cater for the all the diverse skills of the students - Boys Pool A, Mixed Pool B and C, Girls Pool A and B. 101 games were scheduled over the 6 courts, so resulted in a very hectic day.
All students behaved well and displayed great sportspersonship during the games. When not playing, they loved finding out how the other teams were progressing and demonstrated a strong culture of support and encouragement.
Thank you to all the parents who attended on the day to support our students. Special thank you to Danielle and Erin for coaching the Mixed Pool C team, Natalie for coaching the Girls Pool A team and Amy for assisting in scoring.
ATHLETICS REPORT:
Wow, what a fantastic effort from our students at the District athletics! On Wednesday 11th September, 65 students competed for LPPS in both field and track events. The support the students gave to each other was fantastic. In true Langwarrin Park spirit, all students gave 100% effort and conducted themselves in a manner that the whole school community should be proud of.
We had many students place in the top three in their individual events. Thirty students placed 1st or 2nd in one or more of their events and as a result will now compete in these events at the Northern Divisional competition the first Wednesday of Term 4.
A big thank you to Mrs Peluso, Ms Henshaw, Ms Hart and Mr Freake for assisting with officiating duties, supervision and organisation of the students throughout the day. Thank you also to all parents for supporting the students by bringing them to training as well as supporting them on the day.
Congratulations to all the students who were part of the team.
