Summer Sports
After weeks of try outs and practise, the Year 5 and 6 students took to the fields and courts to represent the school at the first of our District Summer Sports days. We were super proud of all of their efforts and sportsmanship and can't wait to see how they go for round two in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned for some photos of the day!
Grade 6 Inquiry - Media
During our unit on Media, there have been discussions in class about the safe and responsible use of social media. As a result, some students have confided in teachers about some of the use of social media in the grade recently. We'd like to remind parents to regularly ask your children to share what they are doing online, which groups they are a part of, and what sort of language is being used in them.
ACMI EXCURSION
Yesterday, 6AS and 6GS travelled by train to ACMI at Federation Square. Students were able to walk around the Moving Image Museum, but the main part of the day was the Kids News workshop program. Students learnt about the content of a news report and how green screens work in tv news, before putting together their own news reports and presenting them in front of the camera. This was then all put together into one big news report. A lot of fun was had by all and I think we have some future news reporters in our mix!
Numeracy Dress Up day
Numeracy week is next week and we are starting off the week as a Numeracy Dress Up day, this is Monday 9th September. Students are encouraged to come to school in free dress with a number represented somewhere on their shirts/jumper. PLEASE NOTE - studetns in 6GP and 6AC are required to wear their regular school uniform on the excursion.
There is also a Maths Escape Room for the Year 5 and 6 students and teams have planned some awesome Math lessons.
Parent Maths Night
Vermont PS is holding its annual Parent Maths Night in the Stadium from 6.30-7.30 on Thursday, September 19. Our guest speaker this year is renowned Mathematics educator, Michael Minas, founder of LoveMaths (www.lovemaths.me). Movie Day
On Tuesday 17th September, in the last week of term, the students will be taking part in the annual Movie Day! To make sure that we are at our maximum comfort levels, students are allowed to come in their pyjamas that day. A gold coin donation is required to do this. The students are also allowed to bring a small pillow or cuddly toy to rest on, as well as some light snacks.
Year 5 Market Day
The Year 5's have been busy planning, costing and ordering the materials / ingredients they require to make their amazing products for our upcoming Market Day. Supplies have begun to be sent home and plans are being made for how to construct or make their products. The groups this week have focused on creating advertising materials for their stalls. We are all looking forward to seeing our budding entrepreneurs in action on the 19th September!
