Assistant Principals

As we enter the final weeks of August, we are filled with pride as we reflect on the incredible achievements and events of the past month at our school. It has been a busy yet rewarding period, showcasing the dedication, talent, and spirit of our students and staff.

One of the standout events was our Year 7 Time & Space evening, where we had the pleasure of welcoming 65 families for a special evening offering an invaluable opportunity for our Year 7 students to connect with their mums and mother figures, reflecting on their transition to high school. The conversations and shared experiences during this event were heartwarming and reinforced the importance of family support during these formative years. We are now eagerly looking forward to the upcoming Time & Space events for our Year 8/9 students and their dads and father figures on Monday 26th August, and our Year 10 students and their parents/mentors on Tuesday 10th September. These evenings promise to be just as meaningful and we encourage all families to register via the relevant links.

We were also treated to an incredible school production of ‘The Addams Family’ in Week 5 at Phoenix Theatre. The talent and hard work of our students shone brightly on stage, captivating the audience with their performances. We would like to extend a special congratulations to all the students involved, both on stage and behind the scenes, for their outstanding efforts. A huge thank you as well to Sally Edwards, Caroline Hardy, Julia Burke and Kylie Wagenvoort for their dedication and countless hours of work in bringing this production to life. It was a true testament to the creativity and passion within our school community.

Last Thursday we held our annual Athletics Carnival, and we are delighted to report record levels of student participation. The energy and enthusiasm displayed by our students were truly commendable, with many embracing the opportunity to compete, cheer on their peers, and demonstrate our school’s DARE values. Hollows emerged as the overall winners of the day, a well-deserved victory! Commendations also go to Freeman, who won the House Chant competition. A big congratulations to everyone involved, and a in particular thank you to Ashley Lanfranchi and the HPE department for leading our staff and volunteers who helped make the day such a success.

This week, we are holding the first round of Parent Student Teacher Conferences on Wednesday 28th August, with additional bookings available next Thursday 5th September. We value the opportunity to strengthen our partnerships with our families to support our students at Auburn High School. These conferences are an opportunity for teachers, students, and families to come together and discuss student progress, celebrate successes, and identify areas and steps for growth. Teachers are looking forward to these conversations as a lever to provide personalised feedback and recommendations to help each student achieve their best. We encourage families to review their child's Learning Behaviour Report, which was released on Tuesday, prior to attending the conferences. This report will serve as a helpful guide for your discussions and ensure that you make the most of this valuable time together. Bookings are available via Compass.

Year 12 students are entering their final phase of learning for their VCE and IB programs. While we know that the intensity does increase at this point in the year, we are proud of how well the students have responded in their academic subjects. Meeting with our Year 12 teachers have revealed an increased commitment from students as they seek feedback to improve their understanding. Students who are accelerating in a Year 12 subject have been supported with initial messages and resources to support independent revision outside of the classroom. We encourage students to be aware of the regular updates posted in Teams and on Compass. Accessing these supports will enable students to build a rigorous and diverse revision program heading into the holidays. All students in a Year 12 subject will sit a trial examination in Week 2 of the holidays (Monday 30th September - Friday 4th October). The schedule will be released by the end of this week to support students in managing their individual timetables and revision.

As we continue through the term, we thank you for your ongoing support, and look forward to celebrating more achievements in the weeks to come.
