VOCABULARY

Summarising: telling the most important parts of a text, in your own words, in a much shorter way.

 

Text structure: The order and manner in which a story is presented to a reader. 


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a book with your child and as you read look for the following:

  • Characters
  • Setting 
  • Problem 
  • Solution
  • Theme (For example, is the book about friendship, trying your best, managing a certain feeling ect.)

After reading, ask your child to summarise these main ideas in their own words.
