KIRBY THEME DAY & R U OK DAY

Last week BSC celebrated and recognised two foundations who are working incredibly hard to raise awareness and make an impactful change in the world.

The Minus 18 foundation was the chairty of choice for Kirby House' theme day as it directly inline with the Houses meaning and Value.

Minus 18 is a charity focused on improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth and creating an Australia where all young people are safe, empowered, and surrounded by people that support them.

The second foundation BSC recognised was

R U OK Day, which is focused on mental health and suicide prevention, inspiring and empowering everyone to meaningfully connect with the  people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.

You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.

The people in your world won’t always tell you if something’s troubling them, so it’s important that you make asking, ‘are you OK?’ a part of your everyday relationships with friends, family, teammates and colleagues.

The earlier you give someone an opportunity to open up to you, the sooner they can find appropriate support or, if needed,  professional help and the greater the chance that together, you can stop small problems from becoming bigger ones.

On R U OK Day, staff shared a morning coffee or hot chocolate together and touched based with one another as the exam period is fast approaching as well as their final weeks of secondary education.
