YEAR 8 RAISE MENTORING PROGRAMS

During Terms 2 and 3, we had 17 students participate in the Year 8 Raise Mentor Program. Each student was thoughtfully paired up with an adult mentor who was there to listen and support them. 

The mentors were volunteers from the community, people with different ages and backgrounds and have gone through training to be a mentor. Each week the students came together and built strong trusting connections with their mentors. They got involved with activities, games and lots of one-on-one conversations. Many students said they felt more confident, gained more communication tools, felt listened to and enjoyed being part of a program during school hours. 

On Wed 11th September the Raise Program Coordinator, Clare, threw a graduation party where each student mentee was presented with a certificate. The mentors and mentees thanked each other and said a few kind words about their time together. Mr Chalk and Tania from Wellbeing came and shared a few words aswell. There was lots of food and everyone had a great time! 

In 2025, the Raise Mentor program will be running again at BSC. If any year 7’s are interested, keep an eye on an expression of interest form that will come out towards the end of the year!
