District Athletics

On Friday 6th September, we had 50 of our very talented athletes compete in the district athletics carnival. It was an incredible day, with lots of students getting personal bests and ribbons. Of the 50 students who attended, we now have 13 representing Carnegie Primary on October 11th in the Kingston Division carnival. Carnegie finished the district day in 6th spot overall and represented our school proudly.

We would like to wish all students heading to the division athletics carnival all the best and hope that you continue to have more personal bests!

A special congratulations also needs to be given to Annabel, Ashton, Flynn, Will and the 4x 100m Relay team as they all broke the district records in their events.

A big thank you to Mr Pollard, Mrs Travers, Ms Fisher and Mrs Kennedy for supporting us on the day and making sure that we made our events in time.

SSV State Cricket News

Aarav V in year 6, has just finished his final trial for the State Cricket Team on Friday 6th September and found out last Wednesday night that he has made it through to the Under 12 Victorian Cricket Team for 2024!

This is an amazing achievement that he can be extremely proud of. It has taken many training sessions since around March this year and he has had to pass multiple selection stages to be selected for this team. Aarav made the final 13 students to be in the Under 12’s Victorian Cricket team and will be competing at the National Championships in Adelaide between November 30th and December 6th this year.

We wish you all the best Aarav and hope to hear your results from the Championships.

We asked Aarav at assembly last week these questions about the process:

How many trial days have you taken part in?

I have been taken part in 5 trial days this year.

How many students would have taken part in this process?

There was over 600 students who started the process. This was cut to 200, then 40 and now down to the final 13.

Would you say it was an easy process or were there lots of talented kids competing for those spots?

No, it was definitely not an easy process. Everyone was really talented and it was incredibly hard to get into the final 13.

What did you think of the whole experience?

The whole experience was really hard, difficult and tough but enjoyable.

Is cricket your number one sport and do you have any dreams about how far you want to make it in cricket?

Yes, cricket is my number one sport and I would like to become a professional cricketer and also one day play for the Australian Cricket team.
