Music Matters
This week sees us working towards providing wonderful music at the various Year 12 Graduation celebrations.
Special thanks to Mr Geoff Power and the Intermediate Jazz Band for their fabulous performance at the Forestville RSL Concert last night and to the many families who came to support them.
Remember, our Senior Jazz Ensemble, also under the direction of Mr Power, will be playing at the Manly Jazz Festival this weekend on the ‘Jazz Stars of The Future’ stage closest to the wharf. Come along and enjoy the finest jazz Pius has to offer!
Congratulations to our talented Year 12 Music 1, Music 2 and Extension students on their outstanding performances last week at their final HSC Performance assessment. You did yourselves (and your teachers) proud!

Drama Matters
HSC Drama News
Well done to the HSC Drama students Michael Krizan & Blake Markulin for their nominations for the possible inclusion into the ONStage program. ONStage is the acknowledgement of exemplary work by students in NSW. The performances take place at the Seymour Centre in February 2025. Both talented students worked hard throughout their HSC year and it is a testament to their dedication, talent and hard work that they have been acknowledged by the external HSC markers.
Excursion: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime
Last Wednesday some of the Drama Elective Students from Years 9-12, along with teachers from the English Department, went to Belvoir Street Theatre to watch The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. An amazing page to the stage adaptation. Students and staff were equally impressed. This is the final Drama Play Excursion for Year 12. I have included a photo from our first excursion in 2021 when we saw the amazing Fangirls. I hope the students will continue supporting live theatre when they can. Their dedication and support of drama has been infectious throughout their time at the college and I wish them well.
High School Production 2024-2025 Oliver Twist
Informal rehearsals started last Friday for the Oliver Twist cast and crew with a costume call and read through of the play. Students were given their scripts, and it was wonderful to have cast in the same room as each other. We also have a keen crew made up of students from Pius and Mercy. Crew are not needed for every rehearsal and I will be in touch with the details before the end of term.
Rehearsals will begin Week 1, Friday 25 October: students from the workhouse Scene 2 will be called from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm.
All characters from pages 2-8 will be needed.
There will also be a rehearsal Sunday 27 October with details in next weeks Woodchatta.
