RUOK? Day's National Day of Action was held this week. This years theme is an important one. Ask R U OK? Any Day because life happens every day.
When asked if I would be doing anything specific for R U OK? Day I sat back and reflected and realised that we actually deliver and empower others to ask R U OK? every day here at Boorowa Central School.
Sometimes we are put off asking others if they are ok, simply because we aren't sure what to say. See the posters below for some conversations starters etc. Handy hint - if you don't feel confident in asking someone if they are ok and you are worried about them, tell a trusted adult at school or at home. They can reach out to support staff who are here to help.
We remind our students and their families to seek support if needed through speaking to your GP or contacting the below mentioned numbers. At school students can seek support from their class teachers, year advisers, boys and girls advisers, school counsellor and of course the student support officer. There are online resources available also.
Below are some key phone numbers that may be able to assist you;
NSW Mental Health Access Line 1800 011 511- staffed by mental health professionals, the line gives NSW residents access to expert mental health advice, support and referrals for people dealing with a mental health problem and their families and carers.
Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 is Australia’s only free 24/7 confidential and private counselling service specifically for children and young people aged 5 to 25.
Lifeline 13 11 14 are a national charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Sometimes we just need someone to point us in the right direction to access support and services. It's ok to not be ok and to not know what you need to help you.
If you are unsure of who best to speak with here at school, please do not hesitate to contact me as the Student Support Officer on 63853009. We are all here to support you and your child.

Stronger Smarter
Students have been looking at Uncle Ernie's Holistic Framework. Uncle Ernie Grant is an Elder of the Jirrbal tribe from the Tully area in Far North Queensland. His Holistic Framework is an approach to learning, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and adding value to learning for all students. We utilised this framework to further understand our connections and sense of belonging through a different lens. The Framework supports a holistic approach to viewing the world through Land, Language and Culture, demonstrating how these connect to Relationships, Place and Time. This framework can be used to understand and discuss any topic. For instance breaking down and exploring your understanding of a book you have been covering in class.
It was an enjoyable exercise with all classes engaged in robust conversations
