How are St Joseph's students Sharing their art with the world!
Last term some of our students were given the amazing opportunity to display their artistic talents at the Australasian Antarctic Festival. The Festival was held from 22-25th August and had over 20,000 visitors to the event where our penguins were an iconic feature.
The only event of its kind in Australia, the Australian Antarctic Festival celebrates the role of Hobart as one of the world’s pre-eminent gateways to the Antarctic. The biennial festival involves the local Antarctic community of scientists, technicians, tradespeople, government agencies and commercial suppliers demonstrating what they do on the frozen continent. It was an amazing opportunity to share our art and to promote the importance of S.T.E.M in our world.

Students will often learn at different rates. This difference in learning can be a result of a number of factors, one of which can be the impact of what we call the “forgetting curve”.
This is something students or even adults encounter when they have learned a new skill and feel as though they “know it”. However, if we don’t use the skill for a while we can lose the information and sometimes even need to relearn it.
The key to students not losing their learning is ongoing repeated practise at the time of learning and then later interval practise every few weeks. This helps students make stronger connections in their brains that allow them to find and apply the skill automatically at a later date.
This loss of learning can often occur over holidays or long breaks from school. To ensure your children continue to practise and embed their learning we have a number of activities on our Home Learning Portal for them to access over the break. You can also ask your teacher for hard copy activities to practise at home.
