i Sea, i Care Ambassadors

Chook up date

Narambi  Wetlands and Mother's Beach Litter Pick up Excursion.

Hi we are the I sea, I care ambassadors.

These are some of the things we did on Tuesday last week.

We started at Narambi  Wetlands, to

investigate a litter trap at the wetlands, and then we traveled to Mother’s Beach in Mornington to do a beach clean up.

We learnt about this litter trap. It is here to stop rubbish from going into the wetlands that eventually leds to the ocean. This rubbish could have come from wheelie bins and people dropping rubbish on the ground.  We discussed how all drains lead to the ocean.  During the talk we discussed that leaf litter, which is loose leaves from trees, being such a big problem as it contaminates the water ways such as the wetlands that we went to and can kill living creatures in the water.

Then we went ponding, Ponding it’s a bit like fishing but you don’t eat them, you inspect the little creatures and you have a chart and it will tell you if the creatures are sensitive or not. If they are sensitive there is not much  pollution, if there is lots of pollution you would find very tolerant or tolerant species only.

We went to Mother’s Beach and we did a big clean up- we picked up`so much rubbish. We found a lot of cigarettes butts, food wrappers, soy sauce that had blown on to the  beach, these could have come  from the rubbish bins.  When we have  windy days like the ones we have been having lately the wind blows all the rubbish into the beach .  We discussed ways to reduce our use of plastic containers.  Some of these ways are using the 10c recycling scheme, reusing containers and even better not buying plastic in the first plastic.  When getting sushi use the of soy sauce and say no to the little soy sauce fish.

We can all make a difference in the world.

Thank you
