News from the PE Department

As we move into Term 3, we are excited to continue developing our students' physical literacy and fundamental movement skills. Foundation-Year 2 students will engage in a variety of interactive circuits and games designed to strengthen their ability to kick, punt, bounce, and dribble. Whilst also providing activities that aim to enhance their coordination, balance, and agility while providing a fun environment for learning. Year 3-6 students will focus on developing their throw and catch and forehand strike skills. These fundamental movement skills will be practiced through activities relating to several net and wall-based sports. students will gain confidence and improve coordination whilst enhancing their game sense, learning key strategies and teamwork skills through modified games.

On Friday 12th of June, our teams played at the Narre Warren District carnivals in Netball and Soccer.

NETBALL: The Turrun Lightning Premiership girls Netball teams carved up the court with some excellent results from all teams. The girls made our school proud with their outstanding display of sporting prowess. The teams dug deep and showed incredible fighting spirit in all their matches with Team A finishing on top in their pool. An amazing effort to reach the grand final and they finished Runners up for our District! A huge thank you to Miss McCann and Mr Chamberlain for their coaching assistance.

SOCCER: The boys soccer teams had a fantastic day at the Winter Lightning Premiership. All teams showed resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the whole day. Team A were undefeated in their pool matches. It was a tense final and ended in a penalty shootout. Michael Sayed (not known for being a keeper) took the gloves and held his nerve for a clutch-winning save!! Securing the District Championship and now go onto the Division Competition next term. Thank you to Mr Pandurevic, Mr Hancock and Mr Gale for all their hard work, coaching our teams.

Congratulations to all teams who competed, making it a historic day for our young school! Good luck to the boys who will be heading to the Boys Soccer Division Competition on the 22nd of July!

News from the Wellbeing classroom

This term, our Wellbeing program is focusing on four important areas that help children build strong social and emotional foundations, with age-appropriate learning tailored from Foundation through to Grade 6.

Positive Coping – Students are learning practical strategies for handling life's ups and downs, from simple calming techniques for our youngest learners to more developed problem-solving skills for our senior students.

Personal and Cultural Strengths – Children are exploring what makes them unique, celebrating their own strengths and identities, and learning to appreciate the diverse backgrounds and cultures within our school community.

Emotional Literacy – We're helping students build their "feelings vocabulary" — recognising, naming, and understanding emotions in themselves and others, which is a key building block for empathy and healthy relationships.

Stress Management – Older students in particular are learning to recognise signs of stress in their bodies and minds, and building a toolkit of healthy strategies to manage it.

These skills are explicitly taught in the Wellbeing classroom as well as woven into their everyday classroom life. The topics connect closely with what many families may already talk about at home, for example feelings, friendships and coping with challenges.

I'm looking forward to a fantastic term in Wellbeing!

News from the Art room

In Term 3 our art room will transform into a vibrant studio as students dive into new materials and techniques.

Foundation students will explore texture and collage techniques influenced by the author and illustrator, Eric Carle, and collaborate on a grand, garden-themed mural to welcome the Spring towards the end of term.

Year 1–2 students will design and construct their very own unique 'bug-like' creatures using collage techniques and paper they paint and texture themselves.

Year 3–4 students will explore vibrant colour and bold shapes inspired by Australian artist Peter Cromer to create mixed-media animal portraits using a blend of drawing and collage.

Year 5–6 students will continue their study into landscape art by experimenting with a variety of tools including watercolours, pastels, charcoal and photography.
