Digital Technologies News
This semester, students across Years 7, 8 , 9 and10 have been developing their digital technology skills through a range of practical, creative and problem-solving activities.
Students have had opportunities to explore how technology can support learning, communication, design and innovation.
Year 7 students learnt how to use key digital tools, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
They created documents, presentations, animations, spreadsheets, formulas and charts, helping them use technology more effectively for learning and communication.
Students also explored cybersecurity, personally identifiable information and safe online behaviour, learning how to protect themselves and make responsible choices online.
Later in the term, they used Microsoft Clipchamp and Canva to create digital media. They also developed their programming skills through Scratch, where they designed interactive projects such as countdown timers, falling object games, drawing activities and racing car games.
Year 8 students extended their understanding of how digital systems work. They learned about hardware, computer parts, software, binary, computer networks, IP addresses and data transmission.
These activities helped students understand how digital devices process, store and share information. They also began learning algorithms and coding, strengthening their logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Later in the term, students applied their learning through 3D modelling, circuit simulation and 3D printing tasks, giving them the chance to design, test and improve their ideas.
In Years 9 and10, students explored how digital technologies can be used to solve real-world problems. They designed and developed digital solutions through programming, website design and simulation-based activities.
These tasks encouraged students to break down problems, plan logical steps, test their ideas and refine their work. Students also explored emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and microcontrollers, and considered how these tools can support innovation, automation and creative problem-solving.
Across all year levels, students showed creativity, persistence and growing confidence as digital learners in the age of AI.

Classroom music
As classroom music wraps up for our Year 7, 9 and 10 students, it’s a great time to reflect on what has been covered over two very busy terms!
Themes, motifs, harmonies and melodies were all explored in the 9/10 classroom as students composed their own piece for piano in term 1.
Term 2 saw the students develop their performance, guitar playing and ensemble skills which culminated in some excellent class performances.
Year 7 students developed their rehearsal skills in term one by learning the keyboard, with songs ranging from Beethoven to Billie Eilish.
Term 2 saw the students develop their performance, ensemble and guitar playing skills, culminating in some fantastic group performances covering songs from Vance Joy, Dua Lipa and more Billie Eilish!
Our VET music students continue to hone their craft with weekly band rehearsals and music industry classes.
Our students not only wowed audiences on stage at several performances, but they also run the entire show behind the scenes, from sound setup, catering and hosting duties.
