Senior School Report

Senior School News

It has been another busy and exciting period in Senior School, with students embracing both academic challenges and memorable milestone events.

Earlier this term, all students undertaking a Unit 3 and 4 subject completed the General Achievement Test (GAT).

The GAT is an important component of the Victorian senior secondary assessment process, and our students approached the day with maturity and determination.

We congratulate them on their efforts and thank staff for their support in preparing students for this important assessment.

Beyond the classroom, students had the opportunity to celebrate and connect with their peers at the Senior Formal. It was a fantastic evening filled with laughter, dancing and memorable moments. Students represented themselves and the school exceptionally well, making it a wonderful occasion for everyone involved.

Our Year 12 students also enjoyed a well-deserved afternoon at Flip Out. The excursion provided a great opportunity to relax, have fun and spend time together as they continue their final year of schooling. The enthusiasm and energy on display made for a highly enjoyable afternoon and created lasting memories for the graduating class.

As we move towards the second half of the year, we encourage all students to remain focused on their studies while continuing to make the most of the opportunities that Senior School has to offer.

VCE Vocational Major

It has been a busy and exciting few weeks in our VCE Vocational Major (VM) program, with students participating in a range of enriching, hands-on learning experiences.

Next semester is shaping up to be just as busy, with several excursions, guest speakers and applied learning activities planned.

Literacy

Our Year 11 VM students recently had the privilege of participating in a podcasting incursion facilitated by Ralph Barba from Making Media

Working collaboratively in teams, students created interview-style podcasts with a special guest of their choice.

Each podcast had a vocational focus, allowing students to develop their communication skills while exploring a range of career pathways.

The final products were outstanding and showcased the creativity, teamwork and professionalism of our students.

Students considering the Vocational Major pathway in Senior School are encouraged to listen to the podcast featuring our Careers and Pathways Leader, Tanya Molloy. Tanya shared valuable insights and excellent advice about the many benefits and opportunities available through the VM pathway.

Our Year 12 students have recently completed an instructional video project. This authentic assessment task provided students with the opportunity to create a text connected to a workplace or vocational context.

Through this project, students strengthened their planning, communication and digital literacy skills while producing a resource with a real-world purpose.

Numeracy

Students recently put their Numeracy skills into practice through their highly successful Bake Sale, held on Tuesday 2 June. This applied learning project enabled students to use a range of financial mathematics concepts while developing valuable workplace capabilities.

Throughout the process, students strengthened their teamwork, communication, problem-solving and organisational skills, while also gaining experience in basic business operations.

The Bake Sale received fantastic support from Scoresby students and staff, with many of us enjoying a sweet treat or two on the day. Congratulations to all of our VM students on a successful event and for the professional manner in which they planned and delivered the project.

Personal Development Skills

PDS has provided students with several opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Students explored the importance of community, teamwork and leadership through a game of bowling and a student-led scavenger hunt around Ringwood Lake.

Last week, our Year 11 students continued their learning about community and collaboration through a combined excursion with VM students from Boronia K–12 College and Bayswater Secondary College. Students visited The Hive at Knox Library, where they participated in an informative presentation exploring the role of community organisations and support services.

They then put their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test at Hijinx Hotel, Chadstone. The day was a fantastic success and provided students with valuable opportunities to connect with peers from other schools while further developing their employability skills.

Work Related Skills

Students have continued making excellent progress on the school garden project in their Work Related Skills classes. This ongoing project provides rich opportunities for hands-on learning and enables students to apply their knowledge and skills in a meaningful, real-world setting. Through this work, students are developing practical skills while strengthening important employability capabilities such as teamwork, communication, initiative and problem solving.

We are incredibly proud of the way our VM students continue to embrace applied learning opportunities and engage with authentic tasks that prepare them for future pathways, employment and lifelong learning.
