Principal's Report

Term 2 draws to a close.

Our final Term 2 assembly provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the array of co-curricular activities that took place beyond the classroom this term.

Sharing these achievements with our students and staff was incredibly heartening; it highlighted the sheer multitude of opportunities available at our school, catering to students of all abilities, passions, and interests.

Academic & Creative Pursuits

  • Enrichment & Competitions: Students challenged themselves in the Da Vinci Decathlon, Children’s University, and the high-energy Battle of the Bands.
  • Multicultural Day & Community Spirit: We celebrated our diverse community with Multicultural Day, alongside various student-led fundraisers and market days where staff and students worked collaboratively toward common goals.
  • Senior School Milestones: The Senior School Formal was a resounding success—a well-deserved opportunity for our senior students to unwind after a demanding term of hard work and the completion of the GAT.

Sport & Active Recreation

  • Interschool Sport Triumph: After a 10-year hiatus, Scoresby students across various age groups brought home 5 flags.
  • New Adventures: We expanded student opportunities where students experienced horse riding, surfing, and sailboarding.
  • Vibrant Lunchtimes: Energy levels remained high during breaks with an expanded roster of lunchtime activities, including netball, karaoke, board games, weight training, volleyball, soccer, and pickleball. Just to mention some.

Community Connections & Student Leadership

  • Grade 5 Discovery Days: We welcomed grade 5 students from numerous schools to explore secondary school life. Our Year 7 students shone as exceptional leaders and facilitators during these days, consistently impressing our visitors.
  • Primary Transition Morning Tea: Our Year 7 students hosted a special morning tea, inviting their former primary school principals and Grade 6 teachers to celebrate their smooth transition to secondary school. This very well attended event has paved the way for our student leaders to work with neighbouring primary schools as tutors and program facilitators next term. We extend our sincere thanks to the primary school staff who took the time to visit and celebrate their past students.

Hands-on Learning Graduation

During Week 9, I had the distinct privilege of attending the graduation of students involved in our Hands-on Learning pilot program, delivered in collaboration with KIOSC and Swinburne University. Witnessing the personal journeys of these students, the fruits of their hard work, and their growing confidence as capable learners was incredibly heartening. Their pride, ownership, and excitement as they addressed the audience was a testament to their growth and value of this program.
