Work Experience Week is Well Underway!

We have students completing work experience placements across a wide range of industries, including early education centres, barber shops, primary schools, industry partners, martial arts businesses, contractors, veterinary clinics, event companies, plumbing businesses, eye care centres, Swinburne University, music companies, and many more.

Students have been doing a fantastic job representing our school, and we hope they gain valuable skills, knowledge, and insights into the world of work. Work experience provides a wonderful opportunity to explore career pathways, develop workplace skills, and build confidence. I'm sure students will also enjoy a well-earned rest during the school holidays after completing a full working week.

As placements conclude, please remember that work experience booklets must be completed, and employer evaluation forms need to be filled out and returned to the school during the first week back of Term 3

These documents are an important part of the program and help us ensure students receive recognition for their participation and learning.

Thank you to all of our host employers, families, and students for making this year's work experience program such a success.

MY CAREER INSIGHTS (MORRISBY) Year 9

All students have now completed their Morrisby one-on-one interviews, providing valuable insights into their strengths, interests, and potential career pathways. These results will continue to support students as they move through Year 9 and begin planning for Year 10 subject selections, helping them explore the wide range of subjects and future opportunities available to them.

A reminder that students can access their Morrisby profiles from home and share their results with their parents and carers. We strongly encourage families to review these profiles together, as they provide a valuable starting point for conversations about future study options, career interests, and pathway planning. A shared understanding of these results can help parents and carers support their child as they make important decisions about their future.

A small number of students were absent during the interview period and catch-up interviews will be arranged to ensure every student has the opportunity to participate and benefit from the program.

Learning Mentor – Year 7 & 8 Personal Branding

It was wonderful to welcome Alex and Daniel from Knox Youth Services, along with our Year 12 representatives, to BECC to speak with our Year 7 and 8 students about personal branding.

During the session, students explored the many opportunities available to them both at school and beyond the classroom to begin building their personal brand.

Alex and Daniel highlighted how involvement in school activities, leadership opportunities, volunteering, community engagement and other experiences can all help students develop valuable employability skills and strengthen future scholarship and pathway applications.

The presentation encouraged students to start thinking early about the skills, experiences and qualities they can build throughout their school years to support their future goals.

It was fantastic to see our Year 7 and 8 students so engaged throughout the session, participating in group discussions and activities with enthusiasm.

Their willingness to contribute, share ideas and encourage one another made for a highly positive and productive workshop.  This session marks the beginning of an important learning journey.

When our Year 9 and 10 students return from the school holidays, they will continue working with Knox Youth Services as they move into the next stage of transition learning, focusing on application letter writing and employability skills.

End of Term Recap

As we come to the end of another busy and productive term, there has been so much happening across the Careers and Pathways space.

From Morrisby profiling interviews and valuable career insights to the many activities within our Learning Mentor program, it has been wonderful to see students engaging in opportunities that support their future planning.

We have also been busy preparing and supporting our Year 10 students as they head out on Work Experience, as well as continuing one-on-one pathway counselling and course conversations with students across a range of year levels.

We thank students and families for their support throughout such a full term and wish everyone a safe and relaxing break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 3 for another exciting term of Careers and Pathways activities, with a particularly important and busy time ahead for our Year 12 students as they begin to focus more closely on their post-school options and the year 10 students as they start to transition into the senior school.
