GO Foundation Cultural Connection Day
In term 3, our school had the privilege of participating in the GO Foundation Cultural Connection Day in Redfern with our Indigenous identifying students and learning and support staff representative attending. Activities included practising survival skills such as fire making and participating in a cleansing smoke ceremony and educational yarning circle. The presenting founders of Dhinawan Yarn and Entertainment generously shared knowledge of healing through managing anxiety by using sound and breath work, an essential skill that builds both student and teacher capacity.
The workshops included character building activities with a focus on the importance of being kind and considerate of others needs, a value which strongly resonates with the Beverly Hills Girls High School Quality Learning Behaviour Framework. The Dhinawan Yarn presenters, Aunty Julie and Raph Hatzi who are proud Gomeroi, Anaiwan and Yuin nation people emphasized how developing our character and selflessness allows us to spiritually vibrate on a higher level, a belief that is incredibly insightful for anyone with knowledge of the work of Japanese physicist, Dr. Kunio Yasue or Sufism.
The concept of human vibration intertwines physics, spirituality and health with ancient wisdom. The rich spiritual connection of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people to the land was also shared, allowing all participants to appreciate and reflect on how spiritually connected we all are to our natural environment. We were all grateful as we left on a spiritually high note which lasted for many days, making us yearn for our next immersion experience in Indigenous Education and Culture.
