From the desk of Geremy Crithary, Deputy Principal
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Another enthusiastic hello to everyone in the Beverly Hills Girls High School community. Welcome back to a sunny Term 4. I hope everyone had a relaxing break and have enjoyed hearing about our students Term 4 learning adventures. So, let’s talk about the term so far.
Parent Teacher Night
We welcomed parents to our school on the 10th of September as part of our second Parent Teacher Night for the year. Like every parent teacher night held at Beverly Hills Girls High School, our halls were abuzz with an energy from our teachers, sharing with parents learning lessons and future strategies to extend and enrich the learning of their students. The high turnout and passionate interactions embody the strong partnership between our school community and staff. I hope all parents that attended appreciated the collaborative conversation and I look forward to seeing you all at the next one in 2026.
Graduation Ceremony
On the 25th of September, I was privileged to participate in my first ever Graduation Ceremony at BHGHS. It was an extraordinary event, complete with lights, milestones and memories. I had the auspicious opportunity to celebrate their success within a speech I delivered to a packed hall with over 150 students and 500 parents in attendance, plus many more streaming the event virtually. Here is a brief extract:
“And now, you, all of you, get to carry that whisper of an idea forward. Spes non fracta. As you step out into the next stage - whether that’s uni, TAFE, work, or still figuring things out, remember this phrase: Spes non fracta. Hope unbroken. When the path gets complicated, when life throws the unexpected at you, when you find yourself wallowing in the detour, sitting uncomfortably in the uncomfortable; it’s your reminder that hope is never broken. And even if that feeling of hope is just a flicker rather than a flame, remember, that even the smallest sparks can light the largest fires.”
This year Ms Iemma also kindly organised two new additions to the ceremony; a photo booth and 1.2m high lights to celebrate the success of this 2025 cohort. But of course, the bright stars of the ceremony were our students, all 150 of the 2025 graduating cohort that proudly marched across the stage to receive their Graduation Certificate. We wish every student success in their now completed HSC exams and hope they take the lessons they have learned from the past and pave a path to academic excellence where their results reflect their hard work.
Beverly Girls High School ranks in NSW’s Top 100 Public High Schools
We were thrilled to receive the news that Beverly Hills Girls High School had ranked in the top 100 Public High Schools in NSW. BHGHS was ranked 86th in NSW.
A team of data and education journalists used a formula that assessed more than 1320 eligible schools around the nation across five key factors, each with a different
weighting, to create a total ranking score for each school.
This ranking score considers:
- NAPLAN Year 9 results across five subjects
- Student attendance levels (proportion attending school at least 90 per cent of the time)
- Fees, charges and parent contributions (averaged per student)
- Student-teacher ratio (based on full-time equivalent teaching staff and enrolments)
- Proportion of students in the top ICSEA (Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage) quartile
Prospective Year 7 students complete the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST)
On Monday the 4th of September, myself and 2026 Year 7 Student Advisor, Mr Ferizis, welcomed over 90 students from feeder primary schools to complete these exams. Using this information, we create our High Potential and Gifted Education Class, previously known as GaT, this ensures that their potential is extended and enriched. Results from this cohort already suggest we have one of the strongest cohorts competing for a place in these high potential classes.
At Beverly Hills Girls High School, we provide opportunities for our prospective Year 6 students to complete the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST) to enrich their admission into our school life. This is but one of the many ways we ensure women can be somebody and do anything.
Term 4 Parent Information Session - Tech & Teens: Helping parents understand the digital dangers of social media and smartphones from the Deputy’s Desk.
On Wednesday the 12th of November, I delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams, the first of our parent information session on understanding the digital dangers of social media and smartphones. These workshops have been designed with the purpose to help equip parents with information to prepare them for the incoming Federal Government ban on social media for under 16-year-olds. Please enjoy some slides from the presentation below:
The turnout was overwhelmingly positive and I want to personally thank parents that took time out of their evening to attend.
Our next session will be held on Wednesday the 26th of November at 6PM via Microsoft Teams. This session will deal with specifically the Federal Government Ban and suggest strategies to help parents navigate this new frontier.
An invite link will be emailed to parents in our school community closer to the day.
I look forward to seeing all parents on Wednesday the 26th of November at 6PM.
What’s ahead:
- Semester 2 reports will be released over the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on your Sentral Portal for further information.
- The eSafety Commission is running parent workshops on the new social media ban. If you would like to know more, please visit this website: https://www.esafety.gov.au/about-us/industry-regulation/social-media-age-restrictions/webinars
- I encourage all parents to ensure school fees are up to date. More information can be supplied by the Front Office.
- Everyday matters – Please ensure students continue to attend every school day up until the last day of term.
