As a part of BHGHS Green Week initiative held at the end of Term 2, the Bevo Greens members organised a range of activities for students to participate in, promoting a more sustainable school environment.

Bevo Greens is an environmental and gardening club aimed at putting forward initiatives to raise awareness about environmental issues and give students passionate about the environment a voice.

As a way of raising awareness of sustainable practices, students were invited to create an artwork using recycled products from around their house. The aim was to show students that something beautiful could be made from recyclable items.

The winner of the art competition was Year 7 student, Noor D, who constructed a beautiful artwork of a koi fish swimming in a pond. Upon closer inspection, our student judges were amazed to see the ‘rocks’ in the koi pond were actually pistachio shells that had been individually painted and stuck onto a cereal box. The leaves are a junk mail brochure. Noor’s creativity is an inspiration to our whole school cohort to look more carefully at what may considered trash, because it may become treasure.

Congratulations to Noor, who will be presented with a $20 gift voucher, funded by Bevo Greens Return and Earn bottle and can collection profits, at our next whole school assembly.

We encourage all students to see Ms Hutchinson or Mr Lofitis if they're interested in joining.

The members of Bevo Greens would like to remind everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle so we leave our planet a better place for future generations!
