This term we have been building students’ capacity to be somebody who can seek help when they need it for themselves or for a friend. In our Home Group lessons, we have been discussing what young people report they often find challenging including:

  • Academic Pressure: Managing coursework, exams, and assignments
  • Social Issues: Difficulties in making friends, peer pressure, bullying, or feeling isolated.
  • Time Management: Balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal life.
  • Learning Difficulties: Struggles with specific subjects or learning more generally.
  • Mental Health: Dealing with anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges.
  • Motivation: Finding it hard to stay engaged or motivated to learn.
  • Physical Health: Issues like fatigue, poor nutrition, or lack of sleep impacting concentration.
  • Access to Resources: Limited access to technology, books, or a quiet place to study.

In our Home Group we then presented the range of supportive adults in our school who can be approached. We learnt that identifying and addressing these challenges early can help support students to succeed both academically and personally.

“Be brave, be strong — don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.”

The school is pleased to announce that the Student Eyecare Program will be running at the school in Term 4, 2025. An optometrist will be onsite during school hours to provide students with a free comprehensive eye examination that is covered through Medicare Australia. 1 in 6 students have eye conditions that go undetected.

This is due to the high level of visual demand on their eyes from books, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Every student will receive a full report about their eye health, and a prescription will be provided if glasses are required. The prescription can be taken to any optical store to get the glasses made. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity. To sign up, register online at: https://forms.gle/qMdKdts3GLXaA31R6

Some families in our community are struggling with the cost of equipping their children for school. If you have any uniform items in good condition that are no longer being worn by your daughter, please consider donating them at the front office. We can then distribute them to students experiencing financial hardship through the BHGHS clothing pool.

As we wrap up the year, we acknowledge the wonderful support provided to our students by the Wellbeing Team including the Student Advisers for each year group, our Student Support Officers (youth workers), School Counsellors and indeed every staff member for the care, empathy and kindness they show and model to our students.
