What's Been Happening in Prep

Community Walk

As part of our geography unit, the preps have been learning about significant places in our community. To further investigate, the students went on a Community Walk along Craigieburn Road. During the walk we discovered the special places in our community such as the Fire Brigade, the Police Station and the Craigieburn Sporting facilities. When we visited the Fire Brigade, we were able to sit inside a fire truck and spray the hose. We then went for a tour inside the Fire Brigade where we saw where the firefighters get dressed, where they work and where they relax. Then we went to the Police Station where a police officer told us who we can speak to if we are ever lost or feel unsafe. She then showed us a police car and we heard the siren! It was so loud! Some of us even got to try on the police uniform! Lastly, we spent some time engaging in activities at the Craigieburn Sports Stadium. On the walk back, students spotted some natural and man-made features in our community. We had the best time!

What's Been Happening in Year 3

This term in Religious Education, Year 3 students explored the parables of the Bible. They looked at why Jesus used them as part of his ministry to teach important lessons about faith, compassion and forgiveness. Through class discussions and shared readings, students identified the key messages within different parables and reflected on how Jesus used storytelling to guide his followers without directly stating his message.

Students investigated the roles and actions of the characters in each parable and considered what these roles and actions might represent. They then applied this understanding by creating their own modern-day parables that communicated meaningful lessons relevant to their own experiences and communities.

To consolidate their learning, students developed a storyboard to retell one of their favourite parables including The Sower, The Prodigal Son, The Fig Tree or The Good Samaritan. This task allowed them to demonstrate their comprehension of the story’s sequence, characters and moral message through both written and visual elements.

Overall, students deepened their understanding of how Jesus taught through stories and how those messages continue to hold relevance today.
