Outstanding Results in National Writing Assessment

We’re delighted to share the wonderful news from our recent No More Marking writing assessment, completed by around 120 schools across Australia. This national assessment provides valuable insight into how our students are progressing in writing and has proven to be a strong indicator for future NAPLAN performance.

The results are a testament to the dedication of our students and staff, and the strength of our evidence-based approach to teaching writing across the school. 🎯

Year 2 – Ranked Number 2 Nationally! 🥈

Our Year 2 cohort achieved exceptional results, with an average scaled score of 555, well above the national average of 498.

  • 100% of students achieved at least the Developing level (nationally 94%)
  • 100% achieved Strong or higher (nationally 79%)
  • An incredible 39% reached the Exceeding level, nearly five times the national rate (8%)
  • Congratulations to Zoey Saccasan, who earned our highest scaled score of 642These outstanding results show the power of strong foundations in literacy across our P–2 classrooms.

Year 4 – Steady and Strong Growth 📈

Our Year 4 students performed consistently on par with national averages, with particular strengths in female performance and overall balance across classes.

  • Majority achieved at the Strong level
  • Two students, Ben O’Callaghan and Anna Podlena, placed in the top 2% nationally, achieving Exceeding grades and winning all their judgements. This reflects solid growth and consistency in writing progress through the middle years.

Year 6 – High Achievement Across the Board 🚀

Our senior students also achieved outstanding results:

  • 36% reached Exceeding (nationally 19%)
  • 91% achieved Strong or higher (nationally 70%)
  • Every student achieved at least Developing or aboveA special mention to Micaela Pacquola, who achieved at the very top of the assessment, winning all comparative judgements, an honour achieved by only around 2% of students nationwide.

These results reflect the incredible effort of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and the support of our families in fostering a love of writing and learning. We couldn’t be prouder of what our learners continue to achieve at Sacred Heart!
