PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

As we approach the end of the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise the importance of regular attendance and participation in all school programs right through to the end of term.

Exam Week

Next week students in Years 8 – 11 will participate in their end of semester exams. This is an opportunity for students to practice revision and study strategies, and build their confidence in retrieval of content covered across the semester.  Exams will be marked and results posted on Compass.

Attendance Matters

Every day at school counts. When students miss days, it can interrupt their learning progress and impact their sense of connection and routine. To help us maintain strong attendance, our school sends a text message to families at 10.10am each day if a student is absent without explanation. We expect you to contact the school if you receive an SMS in order to explain your child’s absence. You may do this on Compass or by calling the General Office.

If we haven’t heard from you by 12 pm our staff will be starting to follow up more consistently with a phone call home. These calls are not just procedural — they are an important way for us to ensure every student is safe, supported, and engaged in their learning. The Department of Education expects us to follow up and expects parents to explain why their student is not present at school. We appreciate your cooperation in explaining all absences promptly.

Headstart Program – Beginning November 24

Our Headstart Program begins on Monday, November 24, when all students move up into their 2026 year levels and classes. Headstart is a vital part of our school year, helping students settle into their new subjects, meet their teachers, and understand expectations for the year ahead. This early transition reduces anxiety and ensures everyone is ready to begin the new year with confidence and momentum. Please support your child’s success by ensuring they attend every day of Headstart. Headstart concludes on Thursday, Dec 11, with Activities week commencing on Friday, Dec 12. No formal classes will run during activities week.

Celebration Day – Thursday, December 11

Students in the 2026 Year 8–10 cohorts will celebrate the end of the year with a trip to Fountain Gate on Thursday, December 11. This event is a great way to recognise students’ efforts and achievements throughout the year. Participation is optional, and families can opt in via Compass. Students attending this celebration day need to have demonstrated the College Values across the year, as this is a big day out in an unstructured public environment. Attendance is not automatically guaranteed and an alternative program will run at school on this day. At the time of writing only 5 places remain with over 100 students attending.

Trade Training Excellence Awards

This week I have the privilege of attending the South Gippsland Bass Coast Trade Training Alliance Excellence Awards, where two of our students have been recognised for excellence in their chosen VET pathways. Congratulations to Jess C and Bryce R who have demonstrated a commitment to their training and have represented KSC and themselves with pride.

Presentation Night – December 16

We are looking forward to our Presentation Night on Tuesday, December 16, where we will celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students across the school. Before the presentations, we will host a community BBQ, providing a wonderful opportunity to share a meal and connect with other families before the formal event begins.

Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring students finish the year positively, engaged, and prepared for the opportunities that 2026 will bring.
