World Teacher's Day

Today, schools across Victoria celebrated World Teachers’ Day and the theme for 2025 is ‘Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession’, with a focus on the power of connection.

UNESCO is calling for systems that prioritise teacher voice, mentorship, and teamwork. Teaching shouldn’t be a solo act, because it thrives on collaboration. When educators have space to share ideas, support each other, and grow together, everyone benefits – and most importantly, it’s our students who benefit the most.

Celebrating World Teachers’ Day is more than just showing appreciation, it’s about bringing wider attention to teachers’ issues and focusing on what teachers really need to do the best jobs they can - time, support and respect. Thank you to all teachers who are doing the best jobs they can and are making a positive impact on the lives of our young people every day.

Polished Man Campaign

The statistics are alarming - 1 in 7 Australian people have suffered child abuse and, every four days in Australia, a woman is killed.

On Monday, we acknowledged the Polished Man campaign to raise awareness of the lasting impact violence has on children and women. Blue was the colour of the day with staff and students painting one fingernail blue as a sign of unity and strength. We ate blue donuts, played a staff v student kickball match at lunch and, in classes, we engaged in short activities to better educate ourselves on how we can be part of the solution. This day is an important one on our school calendar and we appreciated the strong, male role models who led this initiative. More information can be found here:

VCE Exams

On Tuesday, we officially kicked off the onsite Year 12 exam period with the 3-hour English exam. Our dance, drama, languages and music students completed their performance exams in the first 3 weeks of the term, with the rest of our Year 12s beginning their exam period this week. Our Year 11 students are in the final weeks of Unit 2 and will be starting their exam period on Monday 10th November.

I encourage VCE students to continue working hard and doing their best. Eating well, sleeping well, practising timed exams and seeking feedback from teachers and peers are all important factors in ensuring students are prepared and set up for success. As a parent of a VCE student, the sage advice for parents in The Age newspaper on Saturday was helpful to me – ‘stay calm, grounded and be kind to your ‘possibly difficult-to-live with teenager at this time.’

To all our students and families who may be taking an extended long weekend, stay safe and enjoy the mini break.
