Swinburne VET Tasters – Hands-On Learning for Our Students

Over the past few weeks, three groups of our students have been taking part in Swinburne University’s VET Taster Program — an exciting opportunity to experience hands-on learning across a range of industries and explore future career pathways.

Our first group participated in sessions for Early Childhood Education, where they made playdough and where they learnt how to assist patients using walking aids. Their final session in Community Services will take place in Week 6.

Our second group rolled up their sleeves for Bricklaying and Plumbing, building brick walls, digging trenches for piping, and even installing gas piping into wall frames. They’ll complete their final Carpentry session in Week 6.

Meanwhile, our third group explored Welding and Carpentry, constructing metal dice and building a timber wall frame, with Electrical still to come.

In addition to their hands-on sessions at Swinburne, all students have also taken part in on-campus workshops, where they learned about hard and soft skills, effective study techniques, job-seeking strategies, and different types of employment — all led by current Swinburne students.

We commend all students for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and engagement throughout the program. Their curiosity and willingness to try new skills reflect the positive, proactive attitude we value in our school community.
