What an exciting week of basketball for SPX! Congratulations to all teams for their effort and commitment across the ISA season. With only a few weeks remaining, it’s fantastic to see the progress being made, especially by those teams consistently attending training. Commitment to training is proving to be a key factor in early success, and we encourage all players to maintain strong attendance so coaches can deliver well-planned, effective sessions.
Highlights of the Week
14C Team – Outstanding Performance! The 14C team delivered a dominant 54–24 victory over Redlands, showcasing exceptional teamwork and skill. A special mention to Dylan Gleeson, who produced a star performance, supported by Jamie Mathews. This result reflects the hard work and focus shown at training, well done, boys!

Congratulations to Patrick Kisso and Samuel Koudsy for their standout contributions. This team’s commitment to training is clearly paying off!

SPX Basketball AGM
A huge thank you to all the parents who attended the Basketball AGM, we now have some great new voices on board, and we know they’ll continue to support and grow our SPX program.
For any parents keen to help in a more informal capacity, please reach out to Chris Hillsdon at chrisandbrooke@gmail.com. Many hands make a real difference, and even small contributions of time can have a big impact.
One suggestion from the meeting was the opportunity for parents and players to be upskilled in running the score bench. Please stay tuned for more information on this initiative, it’s a great way to get involved and support our teams on game day.

Saturday 8 November 2025 – ISA Round 3
1st XI 2/227 (Rohan Chang 139 not out, Oliver Freeman 51, Archie Wragge 20) defeated Oakhill 204 all out (Daniel Carroll 4/21, Jack English 3/23) at Oxford Falls #1
Returning to Oxford Falls, the 1st XI batted first after the toss was won. A solid opening stand by Archie Wragge and Rohan Chang set up the innings. Rohan played shots all around the wicket and combined very well with Oliver Freeman who played a fine supporting role. Rohan batted through the innings in stifling conditions to record a brilliant century at almost a run a ball! Charlie Chippendale hit out well to leave the 1st XI with a formidable total to defend.
Jack English produced three late swinging deliveries early in the opposition innings. Two very threatening partnerships developed to leave the game in the balance at the second drinks break. The return of English, Chippendale, and Dan Carroll for their second spells proved decisive as 6 wickets were taken for 33 to secure a hard-fought victory.
2nd XI 3-181 (Kamran Nadeem 88, Edward Stearn 31*, Ezra Hartnett 25) defeating Oakhill 6-180 (Kamran Nadeem 2/11, Alastair Fernades 1/35) at Oakhill College
Traveling to Oakhill for Round 3 of the ISA season, the 2nd XI loss the toss and went to field with tight bowling early on the Oakhill batters found it difficult to score with Pius holding them to just 65 runs of the first 25 overs. Finding it hard to take wickets on a slow pitch Lucas Gleeson(C) started the wickets with being involved running out both openers to put them 2 down. Kamran Nadeem came to the bowling late on, getting 2/11 from 3 overs. With Oakhill finishing 6-180 of their 50 overs. Erza Hartnett responded with a quick 25 to start the Pius innings off and set the pace, for Kamran Nadeem coming in at 3. Nadeem batted greatly with getting 88 (off 86) with a total of 13 boundaries. Pius winning the game in the 38th over with 3 wickets down.

2026 U/15s & 16s Rugby squad Heads to Fiji – Community Donations
We are thrilled to announce that our U/15s & 16s Rugby squads will be embarking on an exciting tour to Fiji during the April school holidays in 2026! This trip is more than just rugby as it provides students with cultural exchange, community engagement, and also creating unforgettable memories.
As part of this initiative, we are reaching out to the St Pius X community for support. We are collecting donations of any old technology (such as laptops, tablets, or phones) and sports clothing that can be repurposed and shared with local communities in Fiji. Your generosity will help make a real difference.
How to Donate: Please drop off your items in the morning at the front office or Mr Gates’ office under C Block. Every contribution counts and will go a long way in supporting Fijian communities.
Thank you for helping us make this trip meaningful for both our students and the communities we visit.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for this incredible journey!

Squash
Squash captain, Cameron Giang, continued his winning streak soundly defeating Jets 03 . SPX Team 2 and SPX Team 4 also walked away with great wins. SPX Team 3 comprised of Thomas Kneeshaw and Jayden Beltran deserve an honourable mention as they narrowly missed out on a win last week by 3 points.

Swimming
Last Friday night, the Senior swimming squad competed at the St Patrick’s Invitational carnival at Ryde Aquatic centre. The Juniors came 3rd, Intermediates – 3rd and the Seniors – 5th. Stand out swims from Max Allende who dominated the pool in all his swims. Thank you to the three primary students, Lucas Lee, Andrew He and Harry Ng who joined the senior squad to compete.
Most of the squad had to slot themselves into strokes they don’t normally do. They did it with ease and managed to come away with some great results.
Its been a great start to the Swimming Season.
Training concludes next week on Wednesday morning with our Annual Swimming Carnival next Thursday 20 November.

Round 4 Recap
Great weather at Talus Street last weekend! Even with the heat during the 10:00 am session, the students stayed focused and kept moving.
Reminders
Some students have not been attending Tuesday and Wednesday training sessions. These sessions are an important part of the NSTA season and help ensure players are prepared and supported. Please make attendance a priority, as consistent unexplained absences may require follow-up as we move into 2026.
Additionally, we kindly ask that students remain with their team until all matches have finished. I understand weekends can be busy, but even if your child only plays doubles it is important that they remain with their team until all games have concluded.
I appreciate your understanding of this as we move towards the end of the season. Good luck to everyone for Round 5 this weekend!
Mr Christopher Nouragas - NSTA Tennis Convenor
