Years 2 & 3

We have been very busy bees in the 2/3 classroom over the past few weeks. Congratulations to all the students on their attitudes and conduct at swimming, in and out of the pool. It was really pleasing to see the responsibility the students took for themselves and their belongings, and the respect they showed towards swimming teachers and other patrons at the pool. Excellent work!

At school, learning continues unabated. Our main project in English recently has been writing a Christmas narrative. It has been lovely to witness these stories developing. Our writing focus has taken two directions. Firstly, we have practiced adding narrative detail by fleshing out the main plot with extra paragraphs of detail. Secondly, many students are beginning to use direct speech regularly in their narratives so we undertook some learning about punctuation for direct speech and edited drafts for that. We have been getting into the Christmas spirit, reading 'Twas the night before Christmas as part of our poetry unit. We are now working our way through a highly detailed book from the non-fiction section of the library all about Santa and everything associated with him. This book is filling us with wonder and joy. A lovely shared reading experience indeed.

We used the time around swimming to focus on chance and probability in Maths, playing games and completing activities the helped us delve in to the difference between mathematically predicting the likelihood of outcomes as opposed to just guessing which outcome might be next. We have in the past week put our measurement skills to the test also, accurately measuring paper strips to create some lovely Christmas decorations for our room.
