Kayla Dalgleish - AFLW Draftee

This month, we’re thrilled to highlight the achievements of a recent Berwick College graduate, Kayla Dalgleish, who has been drafted to the West Coast Eagles in the AFLW.

Kayla, who graduated in 2024, has been playing footy since she was 12 and has worked tirelessly to reach this exciting milestone. After playing for the Dandenong Stingrays and representing Vic Country, Kayla wasn’t sure if she’d be selected in the AFLW draft. But to her joy, she was picked up by the Eagles at pick 56 in the 2024 draft. Looking ahead, Kayla is excited about the opportunity to work with West Coast coach Daisy Pearce. “I’m pinching myself,” she said. “It’s going to be amazing to learn from someone who’s been through it all” (The West Australian, 2024).

Kayla has fond memories of her time at Berwick College, particularly performing in her first play, 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream', which she jokingly calls “the play that went wrong.” She also recalls the fun of playing paintball with her classmates on year 12 Celebration Day.

When asked about her path to the AFLW, Kayla shared, “It’s been my goal since I was 12. I’ve always followed every opportunity to get better, and now I’m here.”

Kayla’s favourite quote, “You can’t get so hung up on where you’d rather be, that you forget how to make the most of where you are,” reflects her positive outlook and determination.

We’re incredibly proud of Kayla’s achievements and can’t wait to see her excel with the West Coast Eagles. Congratulations, Kayla—you’re an inspiration to all our current students!
