'Push Limits, Embrace Growth and Make It Count'

Year 12 Kicks Off the Year with a Splash at the Annual Swimming Carnival

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for our year 12 cohort, as they’ve been busy balancing their studies with much-anticipated school events. One of the highlights of the term was, without a doubt, the Annual Swimming Carnival, a day that our year 12 students eagerly look forward to each year. This year, the excitement was taken up a notch with a creative twist: students chose to celebrate the day by dressing up as characters from their favourite films and television shows!

The carnival was a fun-filled event, with students fuelled by the cultural delicacy that is the sausage in bread, supplied by our VCE VM students. Our year 12’s showed off their competitive spirit in the pool while sporting an impressive range of costumes. From superheroes and iconic film characters to beloved TV personalities, the year 12 students turned the poolside into a vibrant celebration of pop culture. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers, laughter and plenty of silly string filling the air as students swam, competed in relays, and enjoyed the camaraderie of the day.

For many, this was more than just a day of friendly competition—it was an opportunity to make lasting memories with their peers before the pressures of their final year of school ramp up. The costumes were not just a highlight; they symbolised the fun and unity that this special event brings each year.

Alongside the excitement of the swimming carnival, the year 12 students have also embarked on the challenging journey of their first round of SACs (School-Assessed Coursework). The pressure was certainly on, with the cohort-wide English SAC being a major milestone. As nerves ran high, students were seen cramming in extra study sessions, both independently and with the support of their peers. Our dedicated English team went above and beyond, running additional study sessions to ensure all students felt prepared and confident.

The collaborative spirit was palpable as students worked together, making the most of every resource and bit of guidance available to them.

Additionally, many students have been taking part in the year 12 Mentor Program, which will be an invaluable support system throughout the year. With the support of some of our wonderful year 12 teachers, the program helps guide students through academic and personal challenges, offering advice and encouragement. It's become a key resource for students, providing them with the tools and confidence to tackle both their studies and the emotional challenges that come with the final year of school.

Our VCE VM Integrated Project students have also been hard at work, rolling up their sleeves and contributing to the beautification of our college. Under the watchful eye of fan favourite Mr Barker, these students have taken on a variety of projects, from gardening to painting, all designed to enhance the appearance and atmosphere of our school. The hands-on nature of their work has not only made a visible impact on the campus but also allowed them to develop essential skills that will benefit them both academically and in their future careers.

As the Year 12 cohort continues through their final year of school, it’s fun-filled days like these that become cherished memories. We look forward to seeing what lies ahead for our class of 2025 as the year unfolds!
