Swing Band Performances at Paynesville Music Festival

Our first official performances of the year for the Swing Band were at the Paynesville Music Festival. The band performed on the main stage in Gilsenan Reserve at midday on Saturday 22nd February and then on the floating shed at the Motor Cruiser Club.

A huge congratulations to the students, especially new members of the band and a big thank you to parents and staff for assisting with the transport of gear and the set up.

Music Recruitment

There are still places available for students to learn an instrument. We are particularly looking for anyone wishing to learn the clarinet.  Interested students are welcome to come over to the music centre and try one.

We are not taking any further enrolments on violin, percussion, saxophone or electric bass. 

Junior Strings and Junior Band

It was certainly exciting to see all the new students in Junior Strings and Junior Band this week. These ensembles rehearse on Monday (strings) and Wednesday (band) after school until 4:15pm in D10. You will be able to hear both these ensembles perform at the Autumn Concert next term.

Music Practice

At this time each year it seems important to say something about home practice. 

Students should keep the following in mind:

• Set regular times to practice each week - aiming for 4-5 times per week (this doesn’t include ensemble and lesson)
• Find a suitable space where there are no disruptions and doesn’t disrupt the family
• Invest in a music stand
• Set goals, both long and short term
• Practice things which need work, devising strategies to solve issues
• If enthusiasm is waning, don’t lose sight of the reason chosen to learn a musical instrument

Parents can support practice with friendly reminders, providing a well-lit, quiet space and by offering gentle encouragement. 

Students who practice make progress and there is nothing more motivational than steady progress.

Instrument Hire

The instrument hire levy is due this month. If families are having any issues with payment, please contact the finance department at school.
