Captains' Corner

Charlotte Lay and Federica Patelli - Academic Captains

This year we are excited to work with our community on a number of projects and initiatives. We are looking forward to helping students strike a balance between academics and wellbeing, instilling in them the values of resilience, curiosity and temperance.

Our curricular and co-curricular academic opportunities are an integral part of what makes Clayfield so special, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute and enhance these throughout our final year. Together, we hope to make learning both within and outside the classroom, so it is accessible and engaging to everybody, for students in Years 7 to 12.

Term 1 has brought our College a range of academic achievements, with more to come throughout the year. Over the past week, our Year 10 and 11 students have begun their first round of Block Exams for the year. We would like to commend them on the effort and determination they have displayed throughout this challenging assessment period. Next week, our Year 12 cohort will also be commencing exams, and we wish them the best of luck.

To students undertaking assessment work right now, please remember to balance study with sleeping, eating, exercising and taking care of yourselves, and each other. Our Clayfield community is here behind you. For students not participating in exams on any given day, please be mindful of your noise levels as you move around the school and be respectful of any signage or teacher instruction provided.

Another exciting aspect of Clayfield College’s academic life is Debating! We would like to offer our sincere congratulations to the debaters who competed in their first round of the Queensland Debating Union Competition over the past few weeks. Both our Year 8 and 10 teams achieved victories in their respective categories, which is a testament to their tenacity, teamwork and commitment. We are exceptionally proud of their efforts and look forward to providing further updates on the debating teams throughout the year.

This year there is also a Chess Tournament to all students from Years 7 to 9, on Friday 31 March. Any students interested in participating in this enjoyable, challenging yet invigorating activity are advised to email Mrs Bryan at mbryan@clayfield.qld.edu.au for further information.

In other news, NAPLAN testing has officially concluded for Years 7 and 9, and we would like to congratulate all students for their readiness and persistence. NAPLAN is a valuable opportunity everyone, it helps improve on our strengths and see what areas we can work on and improve. Well done to everyone who participated!

Finally, we’re pleased to let you know that the Peer Mentoring schedule for 2025 will be finalised by Week 1 of Term 2. As part of this program, students in Years 7 to 10 have elected to receive one-on-one support from a Senior student in subject areas of their choosing. We will be in contact over the next few weeks to facilitate introductions between mentors and mentees. Please note applications closed on Tuesday 18 March, for any further questions, please contact Mrs Mohan at lmohan@clayfield.qld.edu.au, or you can reach out to us.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates surrounding academic curricular and co-curricular life at Clayfield. We look forward to working with you all this year!
