Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week 2025 was a powerful and inspiring time of reflection and action at Beverly Hills Girls High School, as our school community came together to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories while looking ahead to a more united and equitable Australia.
The week began with a moving whole-school assembly, where students and staff gathered to acknowledge the significance of the week and show their support for reconciliation. A highlight of the assembly was a beautiful performance by the school choir, who sang "Solid Rock" by Goanna — a song rich in meaning and history. This performance was part of the Voices for Reconciliation initiative, reminding us of the power of music to educate, unite, and heal.
On Friday, the school marked Wear It Yellow Day, supporting the charity Children's Ground, which works with First Nations communities to create long-term change. Students showed their solidarity by wearing yellow accessories, and the Student Representative Council (SRC) played a vital role by selling Lolly bags to raise funds. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we successfully raised $220 for this important cause.
In another meaningful initiative, members of the SRC also took time during the week to plant native flora in the garden bed in front of our reconciliation mural, symbolising growth, care, and connection to Country. These plants not only add beauty to our school grounds but serve as a lasting reminder of our commitment to reconciliation.
Additionally, students engaged in a home group activity where they reflected on the question: "What is your action for reconciliation?" Each student wrote down their personal commitment, and these responses will form part of a symbolic bridge display — representing the many individual contributions that, together, build a stronger path forward toward a reconciled Australia.
Lastly, and most importantly this Reconciliation Week saw the release of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) which was completed by our newly formed Aboriginal Education Team. A RAP is a formal statement of commitment to reconciliation, outlining practical actions schools, workplaces, and organisations can take to build respectful relationships and create meaningful opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For Beverly Hills Girls High School, our RAP helps guide how we embed reconciliation into our everyday culture — through education, cultural understanding, partnerships, and meaningful engagement. It’s a living document that reflects our dedication to creating a safe, inclusive, and united school community where all voices are heard and valued.
Reconciliation Week 2025 at Beverly Hills Girls High School was a powerful expression of respect, learning, and unity. Through song, action, discussion, and reflection, our school continues to strengthen its commitment to walking together in the spirit of reconciliation.
