Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Another jubilant hello to everyone in the Beverly Hills Girls High School community. Welcome back to a chilly Term 2. I hope everyone had a relaxing break and have enjoyed hearing their daughters return to speaking positively and passionately about their Term 2 learning experiences. So, let’s talk about the term so far.

New Academic Reports

From this term we’re introducing an updated school report layout for Years 7 to 10. The new format has been developed by the NSW Department of Education in response to feedback from parents and educators to make reports easier to read and understand. A new achievement scale and descriptions are included to provide a clearer picture of your child’s progress. The changes include:

  • A “C grade” will be described as “expected” rather than adequate or sound. This is a shift towards more parent friendly language to understand your child’s progress
  • An effort grade will be reported on in the Commitment to Quality Learning: This replaces the Attitude to Learning and covers the Quality Learning Framework focus areas of Thinks Deeply, Engages with Learning and Makes Connections. Further details on what this looks like will be available in the explanatory notes with the report. Further, the way this has been assessed has also been streamlined with teachers using a “Consistency-Usually-Sometimes-Rarely” scale rather than an A-E scale.
  • Teacher Comment: Future Learning Goals will be a series of statements which will outline how the student can further improve and achieve learning outcomes.

By the end of this term, all students from Years 7 to 12 will have received a semester report. These reports will be published on the Sentral Parent and Student Portals. Should parents have any issues in accessing these reports, please contact the school. We welcome your feedback or questions about the new report format.

Senior Study workshops update & Year 12 milestone

The Senior Study Workshops continue to be a success among our Year 11 and Year 12 students with sessions that are targeting specific KLA learning areas being offered by our outstanding pedagogical experts. Subjects across the KLA spread have been presented to students, along with our very own principal, Ms Iemma, recently delivering to Year 12 students on how to use AI for HSC Success. Here is a blurb from the session:

Are you feeling overwhelmed by your HSC workload? Looking for cutting-edge methods to maximise your study efficiency? Join fellow Year 12 students as we explore how artificial intelligence tools can transform your exam preparation! This group is perfect for HSC students of all ability levels who want to work smarter, not harder. Whether you're struggling with specific subjects or aiming for top band results, AI tools can help you reach your academic goals. Limited spots available.”

The session instantly filled up and feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with another session being offered at a later date due to popular demand.

Further, the Year 12 cohort reached their all-important milestone of “Half-way to the HSC”. In Beverly Hills Girls HS tradition, the cohort came together to celebrate with a half-way cake.

But it wasn’t all sugar and smiles. Mr Setchell and Ms Tzavellas also used the opportunity to run a series of targeted workshops on how to maximise their ATAR and some collaborative activities designed to promote a growth mindset. It was a memorable day that created positive memories and motivated Year 12 for the term ahead.

Reform & External Relations Away Day at Beverly Hills Girls High School

Beverly Hills Girls HS had the auspicious honour of hosting The Reform and External Relations Directorate Away Day in Week 6 where over forty members of the state public service used our facilities to build and strengthen connections across the teams and as individuals. The aim of the day was to:

  • support relationship building across teams to strengthen connection.
  • connect and align with individuals across teams to foster collaboration.
  • provide opportunities for feedback and input to enable and empower; and
  • equip staff with skills and knowledge they need to succeed

The day was also an opportunity to showcase the amazing talent of our creative arts and hospitality students. The attendees had the privilege of hearing from two outstanding musical items delivered by Caryssa Santoro (Piano item) and Sienna Ghantous (Vocal Item). In addition, our TAS staff, Mr Mills and Ms Brooks, led by HT TAS Ms Psaltis and their Hospitality students cooked and hosted a delicious morning tea for the delegates. A hearty and creamy soup, a spread of fluffy scones and an assortment of fruit was served up to perfection with not a single stomach left empty.

Events like this and others, provide a rich opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and invite others to appreciate our vibrant learning community.

Mobile Phone Ban

A reminder that the Mobile Phone ban is a department state-wide ban. A new flowchart has been designed to support students in understanding the school’s processes. A reminder that the ban also extends to Air pods and headphones. These items must be off and away all day

Uniform

As the weather gets colder, we are reminding students that they must wear appropriate items of uniform at school. Items that are not allowed include:

  • Hoodies of any colour
  • Ugg boots or Crocs or any other footwear that is an OHS hazard
  • Jumpers with brand names or slogans

Should students be found to be wearing these items repeatedly, contact will be made home, and they may receive a Uniform detention. For more information, including trading hours of our Uniform Shop, please visit our website: https://beverlyhg-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/uniform.html

What’s ahead

  • Aspire Assemblies will be held in Week 10 of Term 2. Theses assemblies are an opportunity to recognise the hard work and outstanding learning of our students. More information will be available at the end of term.
  • Subject selections: Students in years 7 to 10 are currently going through the process of selecting their subjects for semester 2. Year 10 students in particular, are always excited at this time of year, as they get to choice from an extensive range of options which will go a long way to preparing students for senior studies. More information, including a Careers Exp and Subject Selection Night will be available in the coming weeks
  • Year 12 Trial Examinations will be held early next term, across Weeks 3 and 4. A timetable is currently coming together, and Year 12 students will be issued it by the end of the term.

Warm regards,

Geremy Crithary
